Midnite To Perform
At Santa Cruz Vets Hall.
On Monday June 16th, Midnite
will bring their original Roots Reggae Style to 846 Front
Street in downtown Santa Cruz.
How many times does a reggae
band come around that is truly a star on the rise? A Reggae
Band that is not Jamaican but with a sound so there own
it has Jamaican’s asking what parish are they from.
That time is now and the band
is Midnite, based out of St Croix, in the
US Virgin Islands. Midnite’s original founding members
are
“Gainde” Ron Benjamin and his brother, Vaughn
Benjamin. Midnite has broke onto the reggae scene like no
other band, with there electrifying 2-3 hour sets they are
definitely in a class of there own.
The Band has produced four
very superb albums that showcase their ability to go head
to head with the very best out of Jamaica. “Unpolished”, “Ras
Mek Peace (before Reverb without Delay).” ”Jubiless
Of Zion.” And their most recent offering” Seek
Knowledge before Vengeance” are all very strong
efforts.
Midnite will be playing June
16th at the Santa Cruz Vet’s Hall on Monday June
16th 2003. Tickets for this show are $12 in advance and
available at Streetlight Records or online at Ticketweb.com.
Tickets are available at the door for $14. Also on this
massive line-up are Dubwize who will be opening the show,
MC Red I and DJ Hari From KZSC. Be apart of history at
Midnite’s very first appearance in Santa Cruz and
witness a Star Rising and let the music speak for itself.

.Mystic Lion Sails
We're doing more sails for Captain Davy of Live and Learn
School of Sailing. Now in the studio, 'Eaglet' is taking shape
and 'Neptune's Monkey' was unfurled at the Boat Show at Oakland's

Pacific Reggae
Jam a Success!
Santa
Cruz felt the RAW vibes last week as 300 people gathered
for
the Pacific Reggae Jam featuring three RAW Artists. Hawaiian
Reggae Star, Humble Soul headlined the show. Backed by San
Francisco Band Native Elements, he gave a stirring perforrmance
that had the crowd cheering for more. Doing favorites from
his first 2 cds plus new tracks from his upcoming CD "The
Righteous Ones of the Blazing Rockets", Humble Soul was
in crucial form.
Native Elements had
a wonderful set of their own, and got the crowd moving
with selections from their great 'For the Love' CD. Salinas
favorites Dubwize opened the show with a great set of
Latin Roots Reggae. MC Red-I from Chile provided a bi-lingual
spark with announcing along with singing a couple of songs
from his new CD 'Unidad'.
The RAW Backdrop lit
up the stage at the Veterans Hall, a wonderful
all-ages venue in Downtown Santa Cruz. With a nice stage,
great dancefloor and a 90 seat balcony with awesome views,
its the perfect place for Roots Reggae.
Big up to Irie Dan
Sheehan of Good Vibez Entertainment and his RAW crew for
a wonderful show. And don't miss the next Reggae Show
at Veterans Hall...Midnite tickets are going fast for
the June 16th show..Its an incredible venue and sure to
be a memorable performance. Peace.

Reggae
in Mexico
The 1st Annual Baja Reggae Festival
was held on beautiful San Pedrito beach just south of
Todos Santos. On a warm sunny day whales played offshore
and surfers rode the waves, and a crowd of nearly a thousand
enjoyed a great day of music. Even the Legions of Mexican
Police, sent to keep order , felt the positive vibes that
flowed late into the night under the full moon.

La Celestina from Guadalajara opened
the show followed by Riddim Forz from Cabo San Lucas.
Mustapha 'Bald Head Dread' took the stage next, and had
the crowd dancing. The Native Elements Band tore it up
with a great set, the horn section getting rave reviews.
Hawaiian Reggae singer Humble Soul delighted everyone
with a powerful roots set that rocked the beach. The Mexican
Reggae band Ganja, delayed in travel, finally arrived
and closed the evening, cheered on by their fans.

Thanks to Brad and Charo and everyone
who made this a wonderful experience. Due to immigration
problems, we wern't able to set up the Mystic Lion booth,
but, problems solved, we're ready for next year. The Reggae
Ambassador Banner did provide color on the stage, and
we made many new friends in Mexico.

Humble Soul and Native
Elements

Thanks to all who made the latest
shows a great success. The show in Santa Cruz at Moe's
Alley was very memorable. Watch for Humble Soul's new
CD "The Righteous Ones of the Blazing Rockets",with
the Native Elements Band coming this spring. I was delighted
to paint the cover art for one of my favorite singers.
