It was quiet in Negril, with most
of the hotels empty due to low season and
the recent events in New York. Highlights of our trip included
a wonderful
afternoon at Mayfield Falls, and a trip to our Juta driver's
old elementary
school in the hills.
An unexpected surprise and certainly
one of our cherished moments was meeting Peter Tosh's
mother. We drove to Bluefields in order to pay our respects
at his monument. Mama Tosh, who lives in the house next
door, had just returned from church and was greeting visitors.
She had t-shirts available from a recent Tribute to Tosh,
and we were blessed to be able to buy one from her.
One of reggae's premier lead guitarists,
Brian Silverman, invited us to his
home for a visit. He's played with the some of reggae's stars,
including 14
years with the Gladiators, and Ijahman Levi. If you need to
hire the best,
Brian is currently available for bookings. Drop us an email
and we'll be
happy to help connect you with him.
Some of our very favorite hangouts in Jamaica are:
Prento's Thatchhut is located in
Negril's West End, on Tigress Lane. With
villas, a bar and restaurant, and a cyber café that's
open all the time, it's
a great place to eat, relax, or log-on to catch up with the
world. Also
known as the Root's Corner, Prento often has parties and live
music,
featuring performers like Peter Broggs and Jahmali.
Brand
new, and now available, is Mystic Lion's version of a
Thatchhut t-shirt. It has Prento's unique logo on the
front, with "Root's Corner" in red, gold, and
green on the back. We are offering it for $20, in shirt
colors of white or natural.

3 Dives Restaurant has traditional
Jamaican cuisine in Negril's West End.
Right on the cliffs overlooking the sea, 3 Dives has a classic
natural
setting. It is an awesome place to watch the sunset, sip a
Red Stripe, and
sample some of the best jerk chicken in Jamaica. Lloydie and
Paula are great hosts, and a photo collage displays their
many happy guests.
Coming soon is a Mystic Lion designed
shirt, commissioned by Lloydie to
capture the 3 Dives special location. It will illustrate the
breathtaking
sunset on the cliffs, with the distinctive poinciana trees
overhanging the
bamboo jerk hut.
Half Moon Beach, seven miles north
of Negril, is a world apart. It is a
private beach resort with an idyllic setting, a comfortable
restaurant and
bar, clothing optional beach, hammocks, and water sports.
Selina's Coffee Bar and Restaurant
is located on Norman Manley Blvd. across from Risky Business.
They have the best breakfast on the beach road, served
all day, and reasonably priced. Selina and Big Roy also
roast their own coffee, have a phone for public use, and
are always willing to help you flag down a bus or taxi.
It's a popular place for the locals to meet and exchange
news, or debate the best place to hear a good reggae band.
