Native Elements are a collective of musicians
and singers who have been jamming together in different groups for
almost a decade. Living just miles apart from each other they have
grown up in the culturally diverse music scene of the San Francisco
Bay Area. After individual explorations with rock, jazz, blues,
r&b and hip-hop, members of Native Elements have come full circle
rooting themselves firmly in the tradition of roots reggae. They
combine their many influences into an amalgamation of positive,
vibrant music that speaks from the heart.
The powerful music of Native Elements has
been emanating from Bay Area clubs and outdoor festivals, with Humboldt’s
world renowned "Reggae on the River" festival, San Francisco’s "Reggae
in the Park", and the "Monterey Bay ReggaeFest" being the most recent.
They have shared the stage with a host of International acts such
as Bunny Wailer, Burning Spear, Culture, Toots & the Maytals, Black
Uhuru, Pato Banton, Lucky Dube, Eek a Mouse, Yellowman, Big Mountain,
and Gregory Isaacs among others. Their contagious harmonies and
"one drop" rhythms have won over praises from musicians, fans and
critics alike. Even some of the most discriminating Jamaican ears
have found Native Elements’ sound to be as authentic and genuine
as their staple of music back home.
Thanks to the direction and wisdom of the
legendary Twinkle Brothers, Ralston Grant and Norman Grant, the
group has been able to capture a heavy dub sound complimenting their
catchy rhythms. Their independently released, full-length CD features
9 original tracks with dub versions mixed by England sensations
Derek Fevrier’ and Dub Judah. The diversity of singing and splashes
of dub throughout the album injects a fresh addition of native,
roots music to the reggae arena.
Native Elements was one of the first Reggae
Band to use a Mystic Lion banner on stage during their live shows.
They can also boast a band T-shirt designed by Mystic Lion and available
by special order.
